A solid night routine is about intentionally winding down your body, mind, and soul so you are ready for rest and the next day. Here’s how to create a routine that sets you up for success.
1. Choose a Bedtime That Works for You Your bedtime should fit your lifestyle, not the other way around. Pick a time that allows you to get enough sleep so you can wake up refreshed and energized. Aim for 7 - 9 hours of sleep. Consistency is key; try to stick to it even on weekends to keep your body in rhythm.
2. Set Aside 30–60 Minutes for Yourself Give yourself at least 30 minutes, ideally up to an hour, to truly disconnect from the day. Use this time for activities that align with your goals and nourish your mind and body.
3. Choose Actions That Support Your Goals Your night routine should be a reflection of what you value most. Some ideas include:
Reading: Escape into a good book or learn something new.
Quality Time With Your Partner: Connect without distractions.
Journaling: Reflect on your day, express gratitude, or brain-dump your thoughts.
Skincare Routine: Pamper yourself while caring for your skin.
Gentle Stretching: Loosen your body and relieve tension before bed.
4. Set Yourself Up for Success Tomorrow Part of a strong night routine is mentally closing the day. This can include:
Writing down priorities for the next day
Putting work tasks to bed so your mind can truly rest
Completing any small “closing shifts” around the house. This could include tidying up, prepping meals, or setting out clothes
5. Minimize Screens and Blue Light Avoid phones, laptops, and TV in the last part of your evening. Dim lights or switch to warm lighting to signal to your brain that it’s time to wind down.
